Quick Summer Home Plumbing Maintenance Checklist

As we’re nearing the middle of summer, if you haven’t gone through your summer home plumbing maintenance checklist yet, it’s time to remove it from your to-do list! Making sure you spend time going through this checklist each summer will warrant all is running smoothly before the craziness of life and weather begin again in the fall.

Check out our list below!

Hoses and Sprinklers

If you’ve been using a hose or sprinkler this summer to water your garden and lawn, consider taking a second to check their quality. Check for leaks and any water damage. Replace those damaged items to ensure that storing will be that much easier once fall and winter arrive. It will also make the transition from winter to spring/summer that much easier. You’ll be glad you did!

Gutters

The summer weather often clogs our gutters and downspouts, especially those aggressive summer storm winds. Consider checking these seasonally to avoid drainage problems that would cause more of a hassle down the road.

Hot Water Heater

Plumbers will often recommend that you drain your hot water heater once a year. It doesn’t take long for buildup to take place in your heater, which will eventually cause bigger issues for you. See the instructions on your model to ensure you are draining it safely and correctly. Summer is a great time to check this, since most people aren’t using hot water consistently throughout the day.

Drain filters

Checking your drain filters is an important task, as cleaning them out regularly will allow water to flow freely and easily down the drain. Food and hair quickly prevent this water flow and cause major clogging and a headache for you trying to fix it. Check those showers and the kitchen sink. While you’re at it, take off that shower head and soak it in white vinegar to rid itself of mineral buildup. Your showers (and you) will notice the difference!

Why does it matter?

Routine maintenance will extend the lifespan of your home’s plumbing, but it’s imperative to take the time to repair and replace any damaged product before it becomes a greater issue. Plumbing, while appreciated and utilized every day of our lives, is often put on the back burner when it comes to our to-do list. Don’t let your plumbing issues be a disruption in your life. Plan ahead to avoid any large-scale issues, so you can transition easily from season to season.

While some plumbing issues can be handled on your own, others may require more professional help and guidance. Dan’s Plumbing team will gladly assist any issue and answer all questions you may have. Call us today to help you check this off of your list!
