Tips for Summer Plumbing

With summer in full swing, your plumbing is in full swing as well. As with any season, there are tips and tricks to make sure your plumbing is flowing smoothly in your home. With summer comes more time in your home and outside. This means more water being used for sprinklers and hoses, more toilet flushes, more dishes to wash and more laundry to do as well. With that being said, your plumbing is for sure seeing more use than normal. Here are some tips to ensure that your plumbing is in full swing, just like your summer.

Check for leaky faucets

This is one way to not only save water, but also save you and your family money. If a faucet leaks at a rate of one drop per minute, that leads to over 1,500 gallons of water wasted in just one year. Not only is saving water beneficial for the environment, but a leaky faucet will drain your bank account as well. Not everyone may be influenced by the impact leaky a faucet has on the environment, but most people like to save money. Check your faucets this summer for any leaks

Clean your Gutters

Preparing your gutters in the summer for the fall is ideal. This removes the debris that has been collected from the spring and prepares them for what’s to come in the fall and the foliage to fall. Gutters keep the accumulated water away from your home.

Prepare your Sump Pump

As the summer storms approach, it is always good to check to be sure that your sump pump is turned on and ready for whatever amount of water may come. To ensure that it is working, turn your pump on and then dump a large bucket of water into it. If working properly, the sump pump will get rid of the water. Avoid clogs

Experiencing slow draining or even a weak flush? Prepare for these routine clogs that may occur during the warmer months by having a plunger or even auger on hand for when these pesky clogs show up. If these clogs continue, it may be beneficial to contact a professional to take a look at the issue. Reach out to Dan’s Plumbing Services at (779) 529- 5100! We are happy to help. A common clog that happens in bathroom drains and sinks is due to hair found in the drains. A drain cleaning product may work well to clear up the problem. If not, again, call a plumber.

Check your sprinkler system

When you finally break out your sprinklers for the summer, the first thing you should check for is leaks. While doing that, cleaning your sprinkler heads is beneficial for the watering you will do this summer. Sprinkler systems are known for their unseen leaks which will spike your water bill as well. To avoid even more water waste, see if your sprinkler system has a rain sensor so you aren't watering when it is raining already or right after the rain.
